Tile
flooring maintenance
CERAMIC
- Glazed
or unglazed tile can generally be cleansed with clear water
and/or mild non-soap household detergent followed by a clear
water rinse to prevent film formation.
- Tile
flooring needs to be wiped dry following the clean water
rinse.
- Tile
should be maintained on a regular basis to prevent buildup
of soil, grease, residue, soap detergents, sealers, dampness,
water, etc. to lessen slippery conditions.
- Acid
cleaning is not recommended, if necessary, only water based
sulfamic acid can be used when mixed and applied strictly
in accordance to package instructions.
PORCELAIN
- Under
normal conditions, cleaning of porcelain tile requires no
commercial soaps, no sealer materials, nor stripping agents.
Just use clean water.
- As
porcelain is virtually a non-porous material, it does not
absorb water or other stains and requires minimum maintenance.
- Ceramic
porcelain is generally regarded as a high-quality, unglazed
tile that has the same coloring through out its body. It
is more durable, outperforms any of its glazed counterparts
and because of its outstanding physical qualities, is also
easy to clean and maintain.
NATURAL
STONE
- Stone
tiles by nature have small irregularities and cavities.
It is routinely filled with cement plaster of Paris and
pigment. Some stone is not filled, nor is filling advised
because the cavities are so small, filling can be done at
the time of grouting.
- After
installation, stone should be properly cleaned, sealed and
protected with a "penetrating sealer". Additional shine
and depth can be obtained using various topical sacrificial
preparations. We recommend strict adherence to the advice
of the manufacturer of the sealant.
- Once
treated, stone tiles should be cleaned with water on a regular
basis.
- Most
cleaning or wear problems are caused by failure to keep
soils and grit off the floors.
- Damp
mopping with water is sufficient in most situations.
- Regular
cleaning with water and mild neutral non-soap detergents
will help maintain the surface life and appearance.
- Due
to the nature of natural stone, the samples that we provide
are representative only and cannot be binding. Variations
in color and marking will occur from piece to piece. Customer
should always inspect tiles prior to installation.
