taught his way

The Academy's programs cover every aspect of the game: the long and short games, specialty shots, club selection, course strategy, equipment fitting and much more. And, just as importantly, you'll learn how to adopt a champion's attitude through thought process and visualization. Then, each day, you'll be challenged to apply what you've learned on a championship-level course.

The Professional Staff

Mr. Palmer's personal selection of all Academy instructors is a perfect example of his dedication to the traditions of golf and his commitment to give back to the game. All instructors must possess the same winning attitude and the same total adherence to the fundamentals Deacon Palmer taught his son.

professional staff
Our team of instructors combines years of playing experience in the US, European, Australian, Asian-Pacific and South African tours along with collegiate competition. Their instructional experience comes from PGA Club Professional positions spanning the globe. They author articles published in your favorite golf magazines and appear on the Golf Channel's Academy Live program and radio talk shows. All are Class-A members of PGA of America and are certified annually in the Palmer teaching methods. They have been honored with numerous awards, including Golf Magazine's "Top 100 Golf Instructors" award.

professional staff
Some of the game's toughest competitors have benefited from their coaching - PGA and US Open Champion Payne Stewart, 8-time PGA tour winner Scott Hoch, 1996 US Open Champion Corey Pavin, 1994 Sprint International Champion Steve Lowery, and the PGA tour rising star Robert Damron - just to name a few. They enjoy teaching the pure beginner as well as a touring professional and every level of skill in between. Their goal is to help you achieve your fullest golfing potential while, at the same time, making learning and practicing a truly enjoyable experience. Long after you've completed your program, they will remain accessible via telephone, e-mail, newsletters, and videotaped follow-ups to help you keep your progress on the right track.
mastering the fundamentals
Attention to fundamentals, no matter what your level of play, paves the way for consistent great ball striking.

Grip

mastering the fundamentals The importance of your grip cannot be underestimated. We'll show you the grip that will allow you to swing the club in the most natural way possible.

Address
Accurate shot placement begins with a correct address. We will show you how to combine posture, alignment, and ball position for stability throughout each shot.

One-Piece Takeaway
You'll learn how to maintain the vital continuity that a one-piece takeaway swing creates.

Steady Head
Mr. Palmer's #1 swing thought: moving your head more than slightly during the swing causes both loss of distance and accuracy due to an ever-changing swing plane. Maintaining a steady head position throughout your swing is the benchmark of a ballanced athletic swing.

Acceleration
You'll learn the elements essential to maximizing the speed of your clubhead as it swings through the ball.

the scoring zone
Everyone's heard the saying, "Drive for show and putt for dough." That's why this session is appropriately titled, "The Scoring Zone." Short game shots, defined as "from 50 yards and in," require modifying your swing and address for putting, chipping, pitching, and bunker shots. Learning just how to make these changes enables you to naturally alter your posture position and clubface angle without having to consciously think about it. This knowledge, teamed with practice drills, will result in improved scores and lower handicaps.

course strategy
"The golf ball doesn't appreciate that you're a hot shot player, nor does the course. It's a clean sheet every time you play, and you have to impress them with your talent all over again."
- Arnold Palmer

course strategy The variety of shot-making and the demands of every course make every round of golf unlike the last. We help you identify a risk versus a gamble. We match your game to the course, thereby eliminating the frustration that can occur when one tries to force something that doesn't come naturally.

We help you put it all together: club selection, ball placement, pre-shot routine, attitude, and the best part of all ... hitting your target and having fun.

practice like a pro

"Practicing like a pro is more than just hitting balls. Each shot must be thought out and have a purpose."
- Arnold Palmer

practice like a pro Our goal during this session is to help you maximize your practice time. You'll learn to approach shots with thought and purpose, repeat successful swings that over time become automatic, reflexive, and ingrained with the fundamentals.

Your instructor will share practice drills - both mental and physical - and help you develop your own practice and training program according to your goals. You will find your personal copy of "Arnold Palmer Golf Academy Golf Journal" a great reference tool. So whether you are able to hit balls daily, or just on occasion, you will have the satisfaction that it's always time well-spent.
