1. Do you require a building permit and/or a planning permit from the local council?

2. Is the building to be constructed over an easement?

3. What is the building to be generally used for?

4. Think about the height, what is the lowest point of the
wall required.

5. What height is required under the door? If necessary measure the car, float, boat etc.

6. What width door is required to allow you to easily maneuver your car, boat, etc. into the building? Would it be more practical to purchase a large door or 2 doors?

7. To suit your needs would it be better to place the doors in the side (longer) wall then in the gable end.

8. Consider placing another door in the rear of the building to allow you easy access to the rear of the property.

9. Do you require personal access door(s), windows, and
skylights? Consider the position of these to be used to
their best advantage.

10. If purchasing a barn, do you require a loft either now or in the future? If so, design the barn so that standing height is available in the loft region.

11. Do you want to lay the concrete slab first or build using footings and concrete the floor at a later date?

12. The most important if choosing color choose your colors carefully, if necessary drive around some new building estates and look at the color combination being used.
