Tips and Tricks

Weekday Warrior
Make your appointments on weekdays. Salons are less crowded, you'll get more attention, and you won't have to wait to try on popular styles and samples. Weekends are hectic in bridal salons. It is worth taking a bit of time off work to make this important decision . . . and to make it right.

When to Start Shopping

Most purchases are made six to nine months prior to the wedding date, and the average length of shopping is around one month. Don't wait until the last minute. A quality gown will take at least four months to avoid rush charges. Some intricately embroidered gowns take six months. Why do quality gowns take so long? Because they are made to order and quality natural fabrics can start to oxidize (yellow) if they are made too far in advance. Some less expensive gowns take so long because they are made overseas and have to come over on a boat.

Pace Yourself
Like that perfume counter . . . you can only see so many white gowns at one time. If you've done your homework, one of our qualified salon consultants will help you zero in on what may be your perfect gown pretty quickly. Never spend more than one hour looking for the gown at one time. Go take a break, have some lunch. Your eyes, and brain, need a break or you'll go "snow-blind" and everything will begin to look the same. Having a frustrating day? Go back home, relax, play some tennis, plant a flower . . . get away from it for a time.

Trust Your Salon
You are going to be a bride once. A good salon will dress a thousand brides a year. Trust their experience. This is an important relationship that will last months. You have to feel confident.

Don't Go Alone
Take along someone who can help you make a decision. Your mother, friend, or other trusted advisor. But don't take more than two. Why? You're picking your dress. Too many opinions can be confusing. If you can't make a decision without a specific person's opinion, take that person along. They need to participate in the process.

Found your gown? Stop shopping!
This can be the hardest thing! There are literally thousands of gowns out there, and more come in every season. Some brides keep putting off the decision until they are forced by time to accept a lesser gown. Find your gown, put your deposit down, and stop shopping. You have literally 10,000 more things to do for your wedding.
