Cloister
Creek is a residential program, chartered in 1987 by concerned
parents who were aware of a necessary next step for their young
adult because such a facility could not be located in the southeast.
Our program has grown and evolved since its inception; however,
the basic need for functional academics combined with life skills,
work adjustment skills, job placement skills, and a loving home
environment has remained an endearing constant here at Cloister
Creek.
Our
school is a nonprofit program, designed and dedicated to meet the needs of young
adults from 14 to 28 years of age whose learning difficulties have affected their
ability to function independently.
Cloister Creek's purpose is to provide a nurturing, supportive home atmosphere
while offering an integrated program of instruction in academics, independent
living, and job readiness skills.
Our faculty and staff assist each student in the following areas:

Our residential school is located on 20 acres of wooded and
landscaped property. This country location allows our students
to participate in gardening, swimming, bike riding, and hiking.
Yet, we are only 5 minutes from shopping, banking, churches,
and medical facilities. Students live in two homes, which are
set up much like yours. Everyone enjoys planning menus, preparing
meals, and eating in our large, country kitchens. Each student
has a roommate and shares daily responsibilities of doing laundry
and keeping their room neat and clean. Students are under continuous
supervision by our certified faculty as they move through their
daily schedules. Evening house parents reside in each home to
monitor activities and to provide support for our students.
Additionally, we are involved in numerous community experiences
such as going to church, participating in the venturing program
offered through the Boy Scouts of America, and weekly field
trips to various museums in Atlanta. Special attention is given
to the arts, and we make every effort to attend these ongoing
events. It is our belief that these experiences are excellent
ways to model age-appropriate leisure skills as well as to give
each student a strong sense of community involvement and understanding.
