Introduction
I Am Unique
Special Care and Case Management is a nursing cooperative based
on a highly successful model of a home health agency cooperative
stated in 1985 called Cooperative Home Care Associates, which
is a worker owned agency headquartered in the South Bronx, New
York, specializing in nursing assistants. Since the establishment
of Cooperative Home Care Associates, there have been three other
similar nurses aides cooperatives established in the northeast.
I Am Unique will be the first nursing agency in the United States
and the first home care cooperative in North Carolina. Our business
plan has been written by ICA, Inc. out of Boston, which has specialized
in assisting companies to become employee owned and operated since
1978. ICA will continue to consult with I Am Unique until we are
a well established cooperative and on our feet.
I Am Unique's emphasis is on being a nurse-driven and nurse-run
organization. By setting up the company along different principles,
I Am Unique will be able to attract the best nurses, retain them,
and in doing so provide the highest level of care.
I Am Unique's objective is to provide and maintain the highest
quality home care through a strategy of treating employees with
respect and where the bottom line will be patient satisfaction.
I Am Unique's philosophy is dedicated to the provision of comprehensive
quality client-centered and client family-centered home care in
the client's place of residence that is focused on the client's
unique physiological, safety, psychological, self-esteem, and
self-actualization needs. I Am Unique is committed to the provision
of home care services that will assist the client to search for
meaning in the personal life experiences surrounding the client's
illness or disability, to make any decisions about the provision
of home care services based on the client's self-defined unique
needs, and to collaborate actively with the home care agency staff
and other health care providers regarding the provision of appropriate
services. I Am Unique is also dedicated to the provision of home
care education to the client, the client family, and the community.
