About
TMD
| |
Are
you aware that back, head, neck, and facial pain are not necessarily
neurological in origin. They may be caused by compression of nerves
and blood vessels in the jaw joints. This compression can precipitate
symptoms such as sore muscles, migraine headaches, disturbances
in vision, ringing in ears, earaches, ear congestion, and tired
jaw muscles. The compression can result in displacement of the articulate
discs believed to be the cause of grinding and clenching by some
doctors and is named Temporomandibular joint dysfunction (TMD).
This dysfunction of the jaw joints can cause dizziness, changes
in vision, and has similar symptoms of Vertigo and Menieres disease.
Many times people who have snoring and breathing problems have dysfunction
of the jaw joints.
Self
Test for TMD:
You can test yourself for the symptoms of TMD (Temporomandibular
Joint Dysfunction) with these simple exercises:
Putting your finger on the small knob in front of your ear, open
and close your mouth. If your TMJ's are working properly,
there should be no pain, popping or creaking.
Another test:
Place your little finger in your ear with your fingernail facing
back and your elbow raised and outstretched. Again,
open and close your mouth. If you feel pain, popping
or creaking, speak to us today.
