Osteoporosis
An increasingly important aspect of orthopaedics is fracture prevention,
particular fractures caused by osteoporosis. Bone mass peaks at approximately
age 30, and then slowly declines throughout adult life. Osteoporosis
is present when the bone mass decreases sufficiently to result in
a high risk of fracture. Populations at particular risk include post-menopausal
women, and both men and women over age 65. Baseline bone mineral density
should be obtained in these groups, and medical treatment should be
instituted if necessary to decrease fracture risk. In this office
we are experienced in the evaluation and treatment of osteoporosis,
and we offer DEXA scans for determination of bone mineral density.

Orthopaedics/Sports
Medicine
Orthopaedics is the branch of medicine which evaluates and treats
problems of the bones, joints, ligaments, muscles, and tendons. It
includes the treatment of injuries from falls, accidents, sports participation,
medical illnesses, and degenerative conditions like osteoarthritis.
We treat patients of all ages, from newborn to our most senior citizens.
Sports Medicine deals with the prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation
of sports-related injuries. We have experience treating athletes of
all levels from the "weekend-warrior" to the professional level.
Treatment may include medication for pain, inflammation, or muscle
spasm. Bracing or casting with state-of-the-art materials may obviate
the need for surgery; however, should surgery become necessary, we
utilize the most modern techniques to obtain optimal results. Physical
therapy includes modalities for decreasing pain, increasing motion,
and improving muscle strength, and coordination.

Emergencies
We are available for emergencies 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Should
you need to reach us for an orthopaedic emergency after office hours,
call the regular office number and follow the instructions. We will
be automatically paged, and we will call you back as soon as possible.
|
Medication Renewals
We keep all office notes, x-rays, and medication records in our office.
Also, federal regulations require us to maintain a record of prescriptions
for controlled substances. Consequently we cannot renew medications
after office hours or on weekends.
|
Physical Therapy
We have a fully equipped physical therapy department, staffed with
a Registered Physical Therapist and Licensed Therapy Assistants. If
your insurance plan will allow, these facilities are available for
your convenience. Hours for therapy are Monday through Friday 8 am
to 6 pm. Home therapy can be arranged for patients with limited mobility.
We can also coordinate rehabilitation's services with athletic trainers
or other therapists closer to your home.
|
About Insurance
Though our office will file insurance forms as a courtesy, please
be aware that payment is the responsibility of the patient. We participate
in many insurance plans and accept Medicare patients on assignment.
Patients on other plans may be seen if prior arrangements have been
made. Worker's Compensation patients may be seen and treated if approved
by their carrier. We also see patients for second opinions and for
independent medical exams.
|
Medical Records
We dictate all patient notes and have x-ray facilities in our office.
The original office notes and x-rays are the property of the office.
Patients are entitled to copies of both notes and x-rays upon request.
There is a nominal charge for these copies to cover clerical costs
of duplication; however, we do not charge for notes sent to your referring
physician. We will not release patient records without prior written
consent in order to protect patient privacy and confidentiality.
