Sinus Diseases and Surgery

Dr. Krouse is one of the pioneers and developers of the technique known as Powered Endoscopic Sinus Surgery.  This technique, developed by several otolaryngologists nationwide, has become the predominant method of sinus surgery conducted in this country.  The technique uses powered instruments to remove diseased tissue and to reshape sinus openings precisely under direct telescopic guidance.  The advantages of this method include faster healing, less blood loss, and less post-operative scarring than with other available methodologies.  It is simple enough to be done on an outpatient basis.  The actual procedure requires approximately 60 minutes, followed by an hour in the recovery room, after which the patient may go home.  Dr.  Krouse has performed well over 1,000 of these procedures.

Dr. Krouse is also involved in the development of instrumentation to enhance sinus surgery and rhinology, through Smith+Nephew ENT, Inc., Memphis, Tennessee.

Dr. Krouse has published over 20 professional papers and two textbooks:  Powered Endoscopic Sinus Surgery, Williams & Wilkins, 1997, and Office-Based Surgery in Otolaryngology, W. B. Saunders, 1999.
