Admission Policy

The Weiss School, its teachers, administration and staff promote academic excellence within a warm, nurturing environment by providing for the academic, social, and emotional needs of gifted children. To this end, the admission procedure takes on specific importance in selecting students who would most benefit from this academically challenging environment, where emphasis is placed on high level critical thinking skills, creative thought and expression, and mastering of one's personal learning style. The admissions procedure is outlined in The Weiss School Handbook and The Weiss School Brochure.


  
Admission Criteria

  • Application Form
  • Portfolio
  • Psychological evaluation for gifted placement by a licensed psychologist
    a. Overall 130 or at least one sub-test area above 130
        and all other scores in the upper 120's
    b. Positive conduct grades
    c. Accepted assessment - WISC III, WIPSY, or Stanford Binet
  • Copies of last two report cards (if applicable)
    a. Positive conduct grades
    b. Demonstration of academic success
  • Samples of student's work
    a. Creativity
    b. Level of work ability

These items are reviewed by the Board of Admissions. If it is determined that the applicant is a good candidate for The Weiss School, a date is set for the student to visit the school. The applicant's performance is then reviewed and the admission process is completed.
